Helmut Lang switched things up at NYFW this year, with Hood by Air designer Shayne Oliver’s debut collection for the brand.

Oliver’s vision for the brand called for a diverse lineup of models– not just models with a high Instagram following. The casting brought forward some OG Helmut Lang muses, as well as several street scouted faces, and trans model Sophia Lamar.

Oliver also created a line of limited edition merch which was made available before the show, inspired by a touring band. As Oliver told Vogue, “The inspiration came simply from music bands and the concept of being able to leave the best show you’ve ever been to with a tangible piece of the show. This is a concept that I believe the fashion world should start to understand more.” The show also featured an erotically-inspired theme, in true Shayne Oliver fashion. Bondage straps, leather, and heavy chains were prevalent throughout.
