Letter From Lindsay | My Never Ending Quest to Seek Balance
DateAugust 1, 2017
I’m a Libra through and through. Harmonious. Vain. Kind. The positives and negatives are endlessly balancing each other; it’s only right that the astrological sign for Libra is a scale. My life, my personality, my sources of stress, are all born from my never ending quest to seek balance.
I say yes a lot. Probably too often. I want to help everyone, and the vain, arrogant side of me is the one that eggs me on to take on more. “You can do it!!!” my overzealous subconscious cheers.
So the million dollar question is, how do I balance it all? How does anyone find equilibrium in life when there is so much going on and the opportunities are endless? I don’t have the answer, but I have my opinion.
I am a highly skilled delegator. I am all about empowering your team and letting people figure things out so that they learn from experience. I’d rather have someone make a mistake and find a solution than tell them exactly what to do every step of the way. Sink or swim. No one has died on my watch from making a mistake.
I am digitally organized. My phone has 0 badge notifications (except for the ones I can’t figure out how to get rid of, which usually leads me to delete the app entirely). My inbox is clear — Boomerang is my best digital friend. I have clear, open channels of communication with all of the people I work with. I respond to all messages in a timely fashion to promote the same etiquette in return (doesn’t always happen). I make sure people know that they are important to me.
Lastly, I am not afraid of confrontation. I am not a fighter, I am a problem solver. I’m a fixer. I am a fierce protector of my team, my family, and my friends. Don’t mess with them or I will step in and tell you what I think. I think confrontation is scary for most people, it’s scary for me. I have just learned over the years that if you don’t face issues head on, they don’t go away, they get worse and more complicated. Being honest is key. Being transparent is critical to any successful relationship, be it work or personal. Don’t be shy to speak up if it’s warranted.
Balance is defined as placing equal weight on things to achieve stability. I practice giving everything the attention it requires and deserves, and I don’t shy away from relinquishing control. It’s the only way to continue to do more.
