In a recent Glamour interview with Black-ish star Yara Shahidi, Zendaya speaks about the need for more diversity on the Disney Channel. As you probably know, Zendaya got her start on the Disney Channel with her breakthrough role in Shake It Up. Following the end of that series, Zendaya pursued K.C. Undercover, also on the Disney Channel, in which she starred and produced.

Reason being? Zendaya wanted to be a part of a series that featured an all-black family and see the show come to life. Zendaya is quoted as saying. “There needs to be a black family on the Disney Channel. A lot of people who aren’t people of color can’t quite understand what it’s like to grow up and not see yourself in mainstream media. And you know, there is so much work left to be done.”
