Daniel Arsham, a contemporary artist and co-founder of New York collaborative practice Snarkitecture, is launching a limited edition Original New York sneaker with adidas.

The collection was reimagined and designed based on Arsham's fascination with archaeology, exploration, and discovery. adidas claims that the collection is a way to rediscover their brand as "an enduring cultural symbol" through the unique lens that Arsham has.

Arsham updated the sneaker in chalk-white, with features reminiscent of what is supposed to be an "uncovered artifact." The shoes have soles with jagged teeth that have been chipped away and deteriorated frayed edges. adidas' ascribed meaning to these features is that Arsham stripped the New York silhouette down to its "rawest form." A hidden message also adds to the theme of discovery, when the sneakers are exposed to UV light, "THE PAST IS PRESENT" text appears.

Arsham is also creating an ARSHAM x adidas experience, set to take place on Friday, July 21 at 10 am at 64 Bleecker St. in New York City.

The Daniel Arsham x adidas Original New York will be available on July 22 at select adidas locations and is set to cost $180 USD.
