We caught up with model Shikin Gomez, who previously won the Malaysia supermodel search, then went on to become the runner-up in Asia's next top model. We sat down with her to tell us all about her modeling career so far, what motivates her and advice to girls who want to pursue the same career.

Tell us about how you got into modeling.
I started out when I was 19 and was helping friends out with their photography assignments. I continued doing modeling part-time, and eventually took a leap of faith into full-time modeling when I was 22 years old.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Don’t change yourself for anyone, stay true to yourself.

Who is your biggest influence in the modeling/fashion industry?
I’m very inspired by Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn. They are very professional and also humble in their careers.

You were on Malaysia Supermodel Search in 2015, how was that experience and did it prepare you for ANTM?
Winning Malaysia Supermodel Search (MSS) 2015 gave me exposure and experience, and in a way helped me prepare for Asia’s Next Top Model. I was mentally prepared to face challenges that will test my limits as a model, and how to overcome them.

Tell us about being on Asia’s Next Top Model, what was the biggest high and what did you find most difficult?
My biggest high would be the time I got my first call for the Zalora fashion film. I was very surprised that I was able to pull off a commercial-like scenario when I do not see myself as a commercial kind of model. It was difficult to see myself as a commercial model, but winning the first call out and being the Face of Zalora has opened my eyes and expanded my horizons as a model, and now I’m more confident in doing commercial shoots.

What has been your favorite shoot that you've done so far?
I love all my shoots because every single one of them gives me new lessons and experiences. I could never single out one. It would just be too hard!

If you could give any advice to women who want to pursue a career in modeling, what would it be?
Be persistent and consistent. Don’t give up too easily.

What do you get up to in your spare time?
I catch up with my friends and family.

Describe yourself in three words.
Honest, dedicated, outgoing.

3 hidden gems in Kuala Lumpur?
Heli Lounge Bar, Battery Acid Club, and Baden Baden Bundle.

What does MISSBISH mean to you?
A strong and confident modern day woman that is breaking all social norms.

Who’s your MISSBISH? Tell us who she is and why she’s an inspiration to you?
My MISSBISH would be Yuna. She is a huge inspiration in aspects of breaking the social norms especially for Malay women in Malaysia. I respect that she speaks her mind but is also a private person.
