Blake Wood’s Releases Photography Book “Amy Winehouse”
Seven years after her tragic death due to alcohol poisoning, Amy Winehouse is being commemorated by friend and photographer, Blake Wood. In a new book of photographs published by Taschen, Wood documents an intimate look at Winehouse's life behind the scenes. Blake met the megastar in 2008 after the release of her hit song, Black to Black. He was fresh off a year long project, photographing his friends in the music, fashion and art scene in New York. The two were introduced at Kelly Osbourne's home and became great friends.
Wood spent the next year by Amy's side and photographed her life as she traveled around the world. Although it was a rather tumultuous time in the singer's life, the photographs captured a side to the Valerie singer that tabloids never could. After keeping the photographs hidden away for 10 years, Wood has decided to honor the memory of Winehouse by publishing the photos. Of the project, Wood said,“I realized that it was something that needs to exist in the world. During her life, there were so many times that she was treated so poorly by media. This is a way for me to continue to fight for her.”
