#CommitToYou in MISSBISH Apparel | Thavy
Thavy Yin, who you may know on Instagram as Modern Gyspy, is taking style blogging to the next level. The fashion junkie became popular for her unique take on streetwear and ability to blend high and low fashion into one cohesive look. Although her style is ever-changing, Thavy always commits to her style and passion for clothing for one reason: as a means of expressing herself and growing into the woman she has always wanted to be. We enlisted Thavy as the latest in our #CommitToYou campaign, where she tells us about facing insecurities and her inspirations while rocking MISSBISH apparel. What does it mean to you to commit to yourself?
Committing to yourself means to simply put in all of your effort, and then some, to become the best version of yourself for yourself. The best investment you will ever make is within you. As you flourish, watch everything around you flourish.
Since starting your journey of committing to yourself, what are some challenges or insecurities you've faced along the way?
Honestly, on this journey of commitment, one of the biggest roadblocks was inside my head. My zodiac sign is Capricorn, it’s natural for us to be pessimistic. The thought of facing rejection used to scare me away from making moves that I knew would be a massive stepping stone for my future.
How did you overcome them and how do you continue to do so?
I had to remind myself constantly until it was embedded in my head that rejection and criticism are most crucial in personal growth. I do not get discouraged, I stay focused and become even more hungry for success when I face these obstacles.
How can we start and spread the #CommitToYou conversation and help other women to start putting themselves first?
I think it is important to ask other women what their goals in life are and then asking them what all of their goals have in common. The common denominator is them. In order to accomplish their goals, they must have a solid foundation to build on. The woman you’re becoming will cost you people, relationships, spaces, and material things. Choose her over everything.
"The best investment you will ever make is within you. As you flourish, watch everything around you flourish."
As a style blogger, how has developing your own sense of style externally helped you discover who you are internally?
Trust, the most satisfying part of fashion to me is when you can successfully style yourself to embody who you are internally. Along my journey, I have come across many incredible pieces, from independent local brands to high-end brands, that I find fitting to who I am as a person. I believe that the internet is a massive power tool. It provided me with endless inspiration that I nitpick to finally come up with my own personal style that is me to the T.
Why "Modern Gypsy?" What about this title resonates with you?
The idea of how gypsies were members of a tribe who have this "wanderlust" lifestyle was truly fascinating to me. They traveled and made the whole world their home rather than staying in one permanent place. I feel like this vastly relates to the fashion industry because fashion is also not permanent. Styles come and go. It’s all about adapting.
What's your number one tip for other girls who want to cultivate their own unique style but may be hesitant?
Being different is a gift. Think about this… You can be someone else’s inspiration. Fashion is odd at times, but that’s the beauty of it.
Who else in the fashion world inspires you and why?
My muse is A$AP Rocky. He inspires me so much when it comes to fashion. I love how he color blocks different patterns and textures. I also love how he intertwines high fashion with streetwear. For instance, how he supported Palm Angels and put them on the map along with Hood By Air. Who else can rock an inflatable Balenciaga vest channeling a blow-up boat and still kill it? Only his fine ass.
Where are you hoping your #CommitToYou journey takes you this year?
It’s only tunnel vision from here. Focusing on fearlessly making moves to better myself is the motive. In 2018, we are not letting any distractions get in the way of the end goal. Let's get it.
