How has your work/professional life changed since we last spoke to you?
My work life has changed exponentially since we last spoke. I am now the official photographer for several conventions including BEAUTYCON, in addition to providing more businesses with my media services. I have learned so much more about recruiting other freelancers who contribute to my media company, Treu Bleu Media. I’m always learning through trial and error because there is no official handbook on how to be a successful fashion photographer in 2018 but I’m currently working on several projects that will define the trajectory of my professional career.

What's the biggest difference you've seen in your industry?
I’ve noticed several differences in my industry since we spoke. One difference is that more women are being embraced and more women are opening doors for other women. For instance, Rihanna has changed the way models are cast in both the streetwear industry and the beauty industry. Two years ago, streetwear brands were only keen to casting models who were represented by top agencies but now several “traditional” streetwear brands are booking diverse unsigned models who are all shapes and sizes. Virgil Abloh changed the game since we last spoke as well. He is the only creative to collaborate with every top footwear company and he has opened doors for creatives like myself to be embraced. More young creatives are running luxury fashion houses and breaking records. It’s a beautiful thing to witness.

How has getting yourself or your work seen changed? Any changes in how you market yourself or your brand?
Instagram is still a great tool for getting work when it comes to being booked. I consistently attend tradeshows, conventions and high traffic events like Art Basel. Attending these industry events attracts those who are paying attention the most. I am currently transitioning into the beauty industry as I am now the official photographer for BEAUTYCON, so follow my journey via Instagram.com/TashaBleu to see what I will be working on next as I step into the beauty world!

Anything that you know now that you wish you had known then? What's the biggest lesson you've learned?
One thing that I underestimated before is the power of rest. Beauty sleep is a REAL thing! It is imperative for artists to take days off and to find time to unplug. I say this often but it’s so important to pace yourself! Don’t let the internet rush you! Plan for a marathon, not a sprint! If you’re planning to build your brand over the next several decades, take care of your mind and body!

Where do you see your future going?
I plan to expand and hire more photographers so I can cover more industry events globally. I plan on starting several new divisions of TREU BLEU MEDIA. Stay tuned for TREU BLEU everything!

What advice do you have for others when handling things not going as planned or adapting to changes?
Always keep it moving and always strive to find inspiration from things at your access so you don’t get stuck in one place. Start where you are, with what you have! A lot of people DM me on a daily basis asking how they can start a photography business without having a large network and the best way to start is to just do it. If what you are doing is truly your passion then it will show in your work and people will come to you!
