Gigi Hadid graces the cover of W magazine for this year’s September issue, which titled her a "Post It Girl." No, not the sticky paper products that are my OCD dream, but referring to her status both in real life and on social media. Hadid is part of a new generation of models, no longer anonymously plucked from obscurity. Having more than 4 million Instagram followers, Hadid is more than just beautifully stunning, she's a personality. W named Hadid as "The World's Most Connected Supermodel," outlining how connected she truly is by linking her to everyone from Celine Dion, Cher and Whitney Houston (thanks to her record producer stepfather David Foster), and basically every Kardashian-Jenner.
With W magazine always aiming to surprise and transform, fashion and style director Edward Enninful worked with Hadid to create a new look, focussing on a more grown-up, glamorous 70's vibe, with the image being brought to life by legendary photographer and one of Hadid's personal favourites, Steven Meisel. Putting Hadid solo on the cover of a September issue is a pretty big deal, keeping company with the greats like, Rihanna and fashion queen Kate Moss. The interview touches on Hadid's self-awareness about her privileged upbringing, showing that she is truly grounded and hardworking.
To highlight the importance of this issue, W magazine produced a limited-edition gold leaf cover that's only available on newsstands in NYC and L.A., and to subscribers on August 18. The interview and spread shows Gigi is more than just a Post-It Girl, she is a bona fide 'It Girl,' no question.
