The New Year is right around the corner, and like many of us here at MISSBISH, we love the idea of starting fresh and feeling new. Around this time of year, many of us are inspired to refocus our attention on what's important and channel our energy towards the right things. Wouldn't you agree?
Before the start of 2017, we thought we'd suggest a few ideas of things to consider letting go of in order to create a happier space for yourself. Aren't you ready to be a better you? Check out our list below.
Let go of fear. To live our best life, we must lose the fear of being wrong. Fear can hold us back in so many ways - in our careers, relationships, fitness goals, etc. You'd be surprised at the changes your life will make once you let go of it.
Let go of being overcritical of yourself. Giving yourself constructive criticism is one thing; self-deprecating comments are another. Often times, we take the "being hard on yourself" thoughts a little too far, not knowing how it will end up affecting our productivity and overall mood. It's important to love and forgive yourself. Be accepting of who you are and most importantly, be yourself.
Let go of procrastination. Is there one thing you've been wanting to do but you've been putting it off? Now's the time to start working for it. Whether it's starting your own business or making more time for the gym, if you truly want it, you can make time for it. Even if it's baby steps at first, do what you have to do today to get to where you'd like to be tomorrow.
Let go of negativity. That goes for thoughts, people, habits - anything that weighs your spirit down, anything that stops you from making progress and achieving goals you have set out for yourself. It's important to be around people who bring out the best in you, just as much as it is important to practice positive thinking.
Let go of comparing yourself to others. "Comparison is the thief of joy." Comparing yourself to others has become a common theme in today's social media takeover. It's self-harming when we wish to appear like someone or wish to be like someone else. Sometimes, we don't realize we're doing it and how it affects us with time. Those thoughts are limiting and result in not embracing our authenticity and uniqueness.
Let go of financial stress. Money can be a huge stress factor in our lives, but like everything else, setting time to work on a plan to get yourself out of financial worries grants you freedom. If you don't already have one, create a budget. This will give you control over your spending habits. Creating a mantra for yourself also helps, like "worrying changes nothing" or "I'm good at dealing with financial challenges." Focus on your abundance in 2017 and learn how to detach yourself from money.
Let go of grudges. Holding a grudge or onto anger towards people really does more damage to yourself than to the other person. Life is too short to hold onto the bitterness of what went wrong. We all deserve happiness and love. Give yourself the opportunity for a happy, new beginning.
Let go of thinking you're not where you're supposed to be. As cliche as it sounds, you are where you're supposed to be in life. Society sends us many messages that tell us who, what, how, and where we should be in life at a certain age. I'm telling you now: don't listen. It's easy to look at people around us and assume that others are ahead or behind you because of their appearance, lifestyle, etc. Everything in life happens according to our pace. In retrospect, you're not falling behind - the time just hasn't come.
Let go of any material things you don't wear/use anymore. Nothing equals a successful inner and outer cleansing more than throwing away things that you don't use. This is a great time of year to go through your belongings and donate anything you haven't worn since 2014. I like to think that getting rid of old, tangible things is like getting rid of habits that are no longer beneficial. It also makes room for new and better items.
Let go of seeking happiness outside of yourself. To make it through life, we have to learn how to create our own bubble of sunshine. Happiness starts from within. You can start by jotting down what you're grateful for each morning. Stay focused on the good things happening in your life and gradually with time, this feeling will multiply and you'll begin to feel better about yourself. Feel good about yourself and you'll do great things.
What things are you planning to get rid of for the New Year?
