Janelle Monáe Brings Afrofuturism with ‘Dirty Computer [Emotion Picture]’
Janelle Monáe has just released a full-length visual album full of beauty and her signature eclectic style to accompany her newest studio album, Dirty Computer. In the film, Monáe plays a woman named Jane 57821. The "emotion picture" takes place in a future society where residents are referred to as "computers," all adding a valuable narrative to Afrofuturism. Afrofuturism has become quite popular as of late and is a movement in literature, music, and art that features futuristic or science fiction themes which incorporate elements of black history and culture. Tessa Thompson stars alongside Monáe in the film, running about 48 minutes long. Watch the film above.
