Supermodel Joan Smalls is getting everyone excited for the summer with the launch of her first swimwear and intimates apparel collection with Smart & Sexy, a New York-based lingerie and swimwear company.
“From concept to creation, my goal was to create beautiful pieces, with a variety of sizes, all at affordable prices,” the 29-year-old model says as she joined forces with Ariela Esquenazi, the founder of Smart & Sexy. “It’s understanding the different female shapes and how to enhance it and flatter." Her collection offers something for everyone, ranging from crop and triangle bikini tops to French cut bikini bottoms, one-piece swimsuits, and fishnet cover-ups in a variety of bright and neutral colors.
Her eclectic style is reflected in the pieces, allowing women a range of options to channel the supermodel inside and express their personal style. “Everybody wants to look good regardless of their spending budget, and I think that’s important. It’s about affordable prices but still having high quality.” Prices range from $10 USD to $24 USD, bottom and one-piece sizes run from S to XXL, and tops range from 32B to 40DDD.
As for the intimates, the collection includes neon lace bras and matching panties, long line bra silhouettes in unlined mesh and push-up options, and sheer bodysuits. The collection will range from $6 USD to $28 USD. “I just think intimate apparel just goes hand and hand [with swim]. It was also about being fun and expressive. As women, when you buy intimates, you’re doing it for yourself. You’re doing because it looks good and feels good. Not everyone is seeing it,” she says.
Both the swimwear and intimate apparel are available for one-season-only. “But there is a possibility” it will continue beyond that, Smalls says.
