Reality TV star turned beauty mogul Kylie Jenner has dominated the world of cosmetics since launching her lip kits less than two years ago. She recently spoke with Fast Company about her empire, discussing her inspirations and marketing strategies. Since November 2015, Kylie Cosmetics has made an estimated $400 million USD in revenue.
Launched when she was only 18, Jenner says she initially decided to produce lip kits because she loved lipstick but could never find the perfect shade. Now, her company is her passion. "I’m just so happy that now I have this. It motivates me every day. I want to expand into a full cosmetics line–foundations, concealers, everything under the sun," she says.
Social media is imperative for her brand, which is why Jenner insists on absolute perfection. "I don’t pay for advertisements. I don’t do commercials. Social media is the only way I push it. I care a lot about what my products look like when people first see them," Jenner tells Fast Company.
