Meet ANTM Contestant and Beauty Entrepreneur, Tatiana Price

Author: Amani James

As a model and business woman, Tatiana Price has been both in front of and behind the camera in the fashion and beauty industry. After making it incredibly far on cycle 23 of America's Next Top Model, Tatiana continues to make moves as a model and has even launched her own beauty brand, skinBUTTR. Read our interview with her below to get a behind the scenes look into the modeling industry and learn what it's like to create a skincare line.

How did you get your start in the fashion and beauty industry? When did you know you wanted to pursue a career in those industries?
The internet has played a huge role in my love of fashion and beauty. Growing up in the era of Tumblr and Instagram, I was just a click away from so many things that I wouldn’t have been exposed to otherwise, and that has inspired me to want to be a part of the industry.

I knew I wanted to start a skincare line when I started taking my personal skincare regimen seriously; I saw the differences that putting more effort into my routine made. I began making my own products and after a while, I thought it would be great to start a line and market it to people like myself.

The modeling industry is notorious for contributing to body image issues. As a successful model, how do you deal with the various pressures? What advice do you have for maintaining a healthy body image?
I don’t allow the pressure to get to me. The first thing that you should do is love yourself. When you are truly happy with yourself, anything anyone has to say about you or your image is just an opinion and shouldn’t dictate your self esteem. You have to have tough skin to be in this industry and confidence is the key.

Congrats on doing so well on America’s Next Top Model! What was the coolest experience you had on the show?
Thank you! The absolute coolest experience I had on the show was the final runway. We all knew that was one of the last moments of being on the show together, so seeing all of the girls and doing our final challenge was an amazing feeling! We grew really close through the show and it was bittersweet. All of our shoots were done and at that point, it was out of our hands and into the judges'. It felt like the last day of school and graduation all in one.

Your body care line, skinBUTTR, sounds incredible! What prompted you to create a body care line and what’s your absolute fave skinBUTTR product?
I made the products for myself for a while. After attending school for esthetics is when I started to take it seriously and decided to create skinBUTTR. My absolute FAVORITE thing is Pomango! It's a brand new scent that I released for the summer. It reminds me of being on vacation -- it instantly relaxes me and takes me to a happy place!

What was the biggest challenge you faced creating your own business? How did you work through it?
Time management! It's been very hard balancing a job that requires you to pretty much have an open schedule and being on my agency's time. A lot of things are time sensitive, and sometimes things overlap and I have no control. The way I have overcome, and continue overcome this, is by planning and prioritizing. I make lists daily of things I need to accomplish and hold myself very accountable.

Do you have any other projects in the works? What is your ultimate goal as a model and business woman?
Right now, I am working more on personal projects. I have so many ideas for content and I'm ready to start doing more creative and conceptual shoots. My ultimate goal as a model is to constantly elevate. I want to be able to travel more and shoot with the brands I love. As a business woman, my ultimate goal is to have an actual storefront/spa for skinBUTTR.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about modeling?
I think the biggest misconception about modeling is people not realizing that it's a job. Yes, it can be fun and I love my job, but it isn’t all about the glitz and glamor. There are a lot of sacrifices and planning that go along with it -- just like any other job.

What city/culture do you find most inspiring fashion-wise? Why?
New York! I love how New York is a melting pot of everything and everyone. I see so many different and interesting people on a daily basis and I am constantly inspired by my surroundings. My personal style is a reflection of that. Sometimes I feel very fun and flirty. Other times I dress edgy and sexy, or minimal.

What’s your number one beauty hack?
I don’t know if this is really a hack, but I always make sure to cleanse and/or exfoliate my face before putting makeup on! I also apply my foundation with my fingertips right after my moisturizer. I like my makeup to look flawless but still glow like skin, so applying with the warmth of my fingertips and then buffing it in with a brush gives me a natural but flawless finish.

What are 3 hidden gems in NYC?
1) Public Hotel
2) Brooklyn Promenade
3) Zuma Restaurant

What does MISSBISH mean to you?

Who is your MISSBISH?
Ashley Graham, I love how she is unapologetic, a boss, not afraid to be herself, and GORGEOUS inside and out.
