In the recent political climate that has often times left some groups feeling alienated and targeted, brands have been on a mission to remind people, that no matter who they are, that they are supported. Keeping with the theme of inclusivity,  Nike has recently announced their new Pro Hijab designed specifically for female Muslim athletes.

Set to release Spring 2018, the Pro Hijab has been in the works for the past 13 months. The hijab will be made from lightweight polyester material and come in an array of dark, neutral colors. The material and color options allow for Muslim women athletes to wear a hijab that is breathable without transparency.

Nike's decision to work creating a hijab came from the realization that Muslim women athletes (both professional and amateur) were struggling to find a hijab that was durable for sporting activities. Compared to hijabs made of traditional materials or other sport performance hijabs, Nike's promises to be ideal for the Muslim women athlete.

According to an announcement made by the company, "The Nike Pro Hijab has been a year in the making, but its impetus can be traced much further back to Nike’s founding mission, to serve athletes, with the signature addendum: If you have a body, you’re an athlete.” (Quartz Media).

Nike as of recent has worked really hard to spread their message of inclusivity, including the announcement of a plus-size line for women, their Equality campaign, as well as a controversial ad aired in Southeast Asia where five professional female athletes from the region are seen performing their sport while a voice asks, "What will they say about you?"
