Shantell Martin Helps Open The First Puma Select Store In Singapore
British visual artist, Shantell Martin graced the opening of the first Puma Select store in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands to celebrate her second Spring/Summer 2018 Collection. New York-based Martin was involved in the classic ribbon cutting ceremony and a live drawing session. We caught up with her for a chat about her latest drop and the hidden message behind her signature drawings.
What inspired your collab with PUMA?
The opportunity to work in a new and exciting realm with an iconic brand that really is taking risks with their collaborations with other unique individuals and artists.
What's the message behind the collab with PUMA?
The basic message that I try to expand upon is positivity in the world and the constant search for understanding. Who are you? As well as just asking questions like, "Why are you here?"
How different is your latest drop compared to the first?
I think it's very different. The silhouettes are different, the shoes are different, etc. But I think we take what was in the first collection and push forward and venture slowly but surely into some very colorful and playful themes.
What was it like working with PUMA?
It was great and I look forward to our continued collaboration.
What's your favorite piece from the collection and why?
It changes all the time but right now I'm a huge fan of the slides.
