Snarkitecture’s upcoming installation, “The Beach,” will become the largest ball pit on the planet. For those not yet familiar, New York City-based Snarkitecture was founded by Alex Mustonen and Daniel Arsham and is an experimental practice that combines art and architecture. Their goal is to turn the familiar into the extraordinary.
Case in point: “The Beach.” The ball pit installation first appeared at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. Piggybacking on its success, Mustonen and Arsham have decided to take it on the road to Australia. “The Beach” is set to open on January 7, 2017 during the Sydney Festival and will feature 1.1 million translucent plastic balls. Along the perimeter of the approximately 197-foot by 75-foot space, guests can expect to find white beach chairs and umbrellas on one side, as well as a mirrored wall on the other.
Admission prices for “The Beach” vary and you must register for tickets. For more information on the installation and festival, visit Sydney Festival’s website.
