20th Century Fox presents Hidden Figures, a movie based on the true, untold story of black women mathematicians in NASA. The film touches on woman leadership, friendship, and motherhood starring Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Johnson. Taraji is joined by singer/songwriter Janelle Monáe and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer as the trio behind sending America’s first astronaut into space.

The trio gained the nickname “human computers” after launching John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, and rockets into space using just pencils, slide rules, and adding machines. Starting in World War II and moving through the Civil Rights Movement and the Space Race, this was not the easiest time for black female pioneers. Hidden Figures is produced and directed based on the book of the same name, written by Margot Lee Shetterly.

Watch the trailer above and read the book before it hits the big screen in January 2017.
