The MISSBISH Photography Workshop | Lauren Engel
Photographer: Lauren Engel
Location: Hong Kong/Australia
Style: I love shooting fashion and events. I really only like shooting events where I love the music and the vibe is awesome. After those two I like shooting travel-- just whenever, wherever I am, I try to capture the scene.
Equipment: Canon 5D Mark II, EX 580II flash, 50mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/2.0.
Lenses: I actually only have two lenses- 50mm f/1.4 and 35mm f/2.0. I've shot using 24-70 L lens; that lens is MADDDD used. I used that to shoot NYFW. I'm also dying to use the 50mm, 35mm L lenses.
Filter or nah?
Photoshop curves only!
“Get your proportions right--that's the main thing that sets apart photographers even if you don't have professional equipment.”
Why Photography? I was self-taught, I used to stay up at night teaching myself photoshop. I was actually doing editing/photoshop first - retouching other photographer pictures then realized I should probably take my own pictures.
First experience: Probably around 5 years, since I was 16.
Can't live without: Definitely my flash, I love the colours it brings into the picture.
Favorite photographers: Oooo I feel like this constantly changes. I love how Kesler Tran uses lighting and his angles are insane. Zoey Grossman and Ted Emmons have really cool concepts and I like the aesthetic of their pictures.
“Never force energy into your picture, your camera will just catch what is real.”

Tag a friend to feature and ask them a question: Roni Ahn @roniahn - Of all the models and places around the world you tested with, which place and model selection do you like most?
Roni Answered:New York and Paris definitely. New York definitely has some great new girls starting out- some of the girls I had the opportunity or option to shoot in New York ended up starring in major campaigns in just a few months. Last time I went to Paris was during the Haute Couture shows and all the girls had flown in for the shows, so I was able to shoot some amazing faces there as well.
