The 2018 CFDA Awards took place at the Brooklyn Museum, where all of fashion's elite gathered to honor the best of American fashion design. Hosted by Issa Rae, the annual ceremony brought together Oprah, Kim Kardashian, Donatella Versace, Tracee Ellis Ross, and more. Rae joked in one of her opening lines, “I’m about as fashionable as Kanye is black. Only when it’s convenient.” Then added, "That joke was my choice, just like slavery."
Awards included the Influencer Award, given to none other than Kim Kardashian West. While accepting her award, Kardashian said “It was maybe seven years ago when I had a publicist and she asked, what were my goals, what were my dreams, and I said I just wanted to be on the cover of a fashion magazine. And she said, ‘Let’s get some realistic goals because that will never happen.’ And so, of course, I sent her my Vogue cover when it came out. An autographed copy. So it’s really a trip to me that now I’m here getting an award for fashion when it’s something I always loved. Thank you so much for this, it means a lot.”
